HEALTH & SAFETY

Troops are expected to abide by American Heritage Girls Health & Safety guidelines for Troop outings, campouts and high adventure activities. There will be a Camporee H&S Lead and first aid station, but Troops will need to designate their own Troop H&S Lead. Breaking any of the Camporee Health & Safety guidelines can be cause for removal. Any damage to property and consequences thereof by a member of your Troop is the responsibility of your Troop.

REGISTERED ADULTS

All attendees must be registered for Camporee participation and have a current AHG registration as well. To be considered a current AHG Registered Adult, you must be:

  • paid and registered for the '22-'23 year

  • be current on your KEYS/Youth Protection Training and

  • have a completed background check.

  • Unregistered adults will NOT be allowed into the campground, including drop off.

  • Younger children, including infants, are not covered by AHG Liability Insurance and are not allowed access to the Camporee location under ANY circumstances.

FORMS NEEDED

Area Team Events are held to the same standard as Troop Events in the case of paperwork. Currently National standards are that paperwork is held for 4 years. Do NOT turn in original forms if you want them back.

Every Troop will bring two binders/folders of forms. One is turned in at Check-In and one is kept by the Troop H&S Lead.  The following forms are to be included:

  • Permission Slips for every girl

  • Health Forms for Girls and Adult Members

  • Request for Administration of Medication

  • Girl Behavior Agreement signed by every girl

The Binder should be turned in by the FIRST person arriving at Camporee from your Troop with ALL forms so the entire troop can be checked in at once. Please be sure all boxes are checked, signature lines filled in, etc. Binders are kept after the event is over by Area Team Staff according to H&S Standards in a safe and secure location.

  • A Troop Trip Notification must also be filed by the TC.

  • **High Adventure forms are NOT needed after looking at the Archery badge req's.** You do not need to include these in your binders.

GATE PROCEDURES; CARS IN & OUT
  • There are two gates to enter Camporee. One is a Pedestrian Gate, the other is a Driving Gate large enough for one car to enter at a time.

  • The Driving Gate will be closed beginning at 8pm Friday night until 8am Sunday morning.

  • No one may park inside the campgrounds.

  • Saturday Day Campers will park outside the gate in Overnight Parking Lot B. Overflow parking is in Lot A.

  • Anyone arriving OR leaving after 8pm Friday night will have to park outside the campground and carry/wagon their gear to/from their car. This includes anyone leaving early before Camporee's designated end on Sunday morning.

  • Only Registered Adults and Girl Members with their Camporee Lanyard ID are allowed past either gate.

  • You MUST have a Camporee ID to be allowed in. Please make sure you have the cell number of the Responsible Person in your Troop who arrives first to check in and is given the Troop IDs. They will have to meet you to give you your ID to get in.

  • Sharing or swapping IDs is a breach of Camporee Health and Safety and can be grounds for removal from  Camporee.

  • Upon Arrival, cars will sign in on the Gate Attendant Log. If leaving Camporee premises, drivers will also sign out.

2 DEEP/CPR FIRST AID
  • Troops will need to designate their own Health and Safety Lead and bring their own First Aid kits. This person should be certified in CPR & First Aid. You may designate 2 people for this role.

  • Troops should send enough Adult Members to maintain 2 Deep Leadership and ratios for their Troops.

  • Troops must be covered 24/7 with a CPR/First Aid trained Adult Member.

FIRE/CAMPSITE SAFETY
MAN CAMP
  • Registered Adult Male Campers are welcome at Camporee!

  • They will sleep in a separate, but nearby area with access to electricity.

  • Male Campers are expected to leave the female campsite by 10pm and are not to return until after 7am.

  • If there is an emergency, the Men's Camp Lead will coordinate with Camporee Leadership.

  • NO females are allowed in Man Camp under any circumstances.

  • There is NO propane allowed on the property EXCEPT the small canisters and ONLY when used on the camp stoves. The use of matches, lighters or flint and steel IS encouraged. NO lighter fluid or accelerant is allowed. The facility is very strict about these in particular and improper propane use can be cause for removal from Camporee and a fine/financial penalty.

  • When setting up your camp site, please maintain a safe distance between tents/chairs and cooking areas. Please also be observant of potential hazards that could be affected by high winds which could carry flames.

  • Troops must have their water buckets filled or a fire extinguisher on hand when fire is present. Review grease fires with your Troops!

  • Please make sure fires are completely extinguished after use. Soak it. Stir it. Soak it.

  • Sleeping Arrangements: Girl Members may not share tents with Girl Members older or younger than them by 2 years unless it is a sibling. Adults may not share a tent with girls that are not their own.

  • Girls will observe the "Truddy" System when moving around the campground - in groups of 3 instead of 2.

ILLNESS

We ask campers to stay home if they are ill, have symptoms of illness or have not been fever-free for 24 hours.

NUT FREE ZONE

Recognizing that there are several attendees with allergies to peanuts and tree nuts, Camporee is a NUT-FREE ZONE. Please do not bring any products or cook anything with nuts in it.

MEDIA RELEASE

There will be no opting out of a Media Release this year as we cannot guarantee who is/who is not in pictures in an event this large. Camporee Leadership will only release photos on the DC Metro Area Jump, in the Area Team newsletter, and submission to AHG National for use as they see fit.

MISC.
  • Safety and security of our event is our top priority.

  • We strongly recommend limiting Girl Members' use of electronics at this event while understanding that they will want their phones for the purpose of picture taking.

  • AHG policy forbids posting/sharing/'checking in' on social media with our location while the event is going on.

  • October weather in Virginia can vary from very warm to very cold. Attendees should bring water bottles to stay hydrated and bring weather appropriate clothing including rain jackets or ponchos.

  • Troops should use their own discretion on pocket knife use in camp by their Girl Members.

  • NO explosives, alcohol, tobacco or vaping products or illegal drugs will be tolerated.
